The Federal Council of Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy (COFFITO) emphasizes the crucial role of occupational therapists in promoting the mental health of caregivers of people with disabilities, who face physical, social, and emotional challenges. The text discusses the “Caring for the Caregiver” Project, conducted between March and April 2024 at APAE Belém, involving 10 participants under academic supervision and with ethical approval (CAAE: 65460822.0.0000.5172). Through workshops and therapeutic groups, which included relaxation techniques, self-massage, manual activities, and discussion circles, a reduction in stress and burden was observed, alongside improvements in self-care, self-awareness, and the strengthening of social support networks. The interventions proved effective in enhancing the caregivers’ quality of life and mental health, highlighting the need to expand such strategies to benefit both caregivers and those they care for.
