Prevalence of work accidents in reference psychiatric unit

Purpose: To identify the prevalence of occupational accidents in mental health professionals at a referral hospital in Belém do Pará during the period 2008-2018. Methods: A descriptive, retrospective and cross-sectional study of violence against mental health professionals working at the Gaspar Vianna Clinical Hospital Foundation through the collection of accident notification forms registered by the Specialized Service in Safety Engineering and Occupational Medicine. Results: There were a total of 147 reported accidents in the period 2008-2018, being shown by Chi-Square statistical significance, compared to each year, in relation to the day shift and professional position, but did not show gender significance. Conclusion: It is observed that the nursing technicians are the group with the highest accident notification rate, as well as the higher prevalence in the morning shift, requiring improvement and assistance, such as self-defense techniques to help reduce this accident rate, in addition to comparing with other psychiatric referral centers to find out if they have higher female notifications, because in the survey the result was not significant
