Electrocardiographic profile of patients with heart failure at a referral center

Purpose: Describe the electrocardiographic profile of patients with heart failure; describe the sample epidemiologically; correlate the Askenazi index with the ejection fraction. Methods: The study is cross-sectional, observational and retrospective conducted at the Hospital de Clínicas Gaspar Vianna. The patients were divided into groups with reduced or preserved ejection fraction, aiming to compare the electrocardiographic aspects. The ANOVA 1 criterion, Test G, Phi coefficient and D’Agostino Pearson tests were used in the analysis of the groups. Results: 240 medical records were studied, with a mean age of 59 ± 17.4 years, 64.6% male. The pathologies that stand out the most are: left ventricular hypertrophy (23.7%), acute anterior wall myocardial infarction (20.8%), atrial fibrillation (19.1%) and left bundle branch block (18, 3%). There is also a correlation between the QRS complex and the ejection fraction (p = 0.01). Conclusion: The main alterations in the heart failure electrocardiogram are left ventricular hypertrophy, acute anterior wall myocardial infarction and atrial fibrillation. There was no difference between the reduced and preserved ejection fraction groups. The Askenazi index and the ejection fraction were significantly related.
