Nutritional state of high risk pregnant women in a public maternity and their relationship with maternal-fetal outcomes

Pre-gestational initial nutritional status and gestational weight gain have direct implications for fetal maternal health. Purpose: To analyze the nutritional status of pregnant women in a public referral maternity hospital of high risk prenatal care. Methods: Retrospective, descriptive and quantitative study, conducted in Belem-PA. Data was obtained through analysis of physical records, using a structured form prepared by the authors. Results: The percentages of women with normal weight (39.2%) and overweight (39.9%) were equivalent. Blood glucose in the normal weight group was statistically lower when compared to blood glucose in the overweight and obese groups, as well as blood pressure. There was a significant association between SHEG and nutritional status. Regarding comorbidities related to newborns, there was no significant association in either case. Conclusion: In this study, it was possible to demonstrate the association of obesity and obesity with high glycemic levels, high blood pressure, occurrence of SHEG and prematurity. Therefore, it can be concluded that prenatal care and multiprofessional care are indispensable in risk identification consultations and care services that may affect maternal and fetal outcomes.
