Retroperitoneal ectopic pregnancy

Purpose: To report a rare case of ectopic pregnancy in the retroperitoneal space, that occurred in a teaching and research hospital, a reference in the treatment of high-risk pregnant women in the state of Pará. Case report: A 24-year-old female patient was admitted In the medical clinic of a middle and high risk maternity hospital in the city of Belém/PA, with emesis and pain in the right lower back with irradiation to the right lower limb and normotensive abdomen, presenting a palpable mass in the right hypochondrium, painful to palpation. Beta-HCG, tomography of the abdomen and transvaginal ultrasonography indicated ectopic pregnancy and by exploratory laparotomy hematoma was identified in the retroperitoneal region and its dissection was uneventful. Conclusion: The outcome of this case was favorable, but the exceptional location of ectopic pregnancy makes the diagnosis more difficult. Therefore, it is necessary to carry out further studies on the subject, so that its diffusion will subsidize greater advances in diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, in order to reduce the morbidity and mortality presented by such clinical condition.
